PR1/MATHIASEN MOTORSPORTS WINS THE WEATHERTECH 240 AT WATKINS GLEN AND EXTENDS LMP2 CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD

For Immediate Release

Watkins Glen, NY – PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports won the fifth round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the WeatherTech 240 in the LMP2 category, maintaining its points lead in the Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) class. The team also received the mid-year VP Racing Fuels Front Runner Award, for leading the most laps in the most races throughout the first five races of the season.

The No. 52 PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports ORECA was piloted by Ben Keating and Mikkel Jensen. Keating captured the pole and started the race out front. “Both Mikkel and Ben had outstanding stints as we lead from pole to the finish.” said Ray Mathaisen, team principal. “The car performed perfectly in the dry and wet all day. A big thanks to Bobby and crew for a great job of preparing the car for both weekends at the Glen. It was almost perfect.”

The weather presented challenges for all the competitors, with rain present at all sessions, including during the race, which caused a 45-minute red flag for lighting in the area.

“What an exciting race! Our plan came together perfectly until the red flag.” said Ben Keating. “After the restart, our strategy turned from great into a last place finish. However, Mikkel drove great in the clean air after the restart while our competitors were racing each other hard and working through traffic. We developed enough time to be able to take a splash of fuel and still keep the lead.”

“What a wild race event that was, the crew and drivers were flawless once again.” said Team Principal, Bobby Oergel. “After not being on trac
